POSITION PURPOSE

The Regional Accounting Manager is responsible for all accounting process for the Central Region. As such the underlying accounting processes for all segments of the business unit must be mastered and well managed. An effective Regional Accounting Manager needs to be well versed in Construction Accounting concepts, possess a thorough understand Viewpoint Construction Management software and Plant accounting with utilization of JWS. Additionally the chosen candidate must be a strong leader and ensure that company policies and procedures are followed.

Essential Functions

The tasks the Regional Accounting Manager would oversee and/or perform would include, but not limited to the following areas:

Project Accounting

  • Contract and job cost maintenance.
  • Change order maintenance.
  • Subcontract processing.
  • Contract billing.
  • Quantity updates.
  • Interface with Project Managers, Engineers and Superintendents to acquire the necessary information in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate job cost reports, percent complete reports.
  • Proper document retention and compliance for each job file.
  • Attend pre-construction meetings.
  • Analyze cost, data and reports to provide explanation of the costs associated with each project.
  • Communicate concerns when the project needs attention.

    Month-end close
    • Ensure accounting deadlines and cut-off procedures are followed.
    • Ensure cost reports are accurately reporting quantities, costs and projections.
    • Ensure WIP reports, cost reports and percent complete reports are reconciled.
    • Work with Project Management Team to explain over / under billings and profit fade.
    • Attend monthly financial review meetings.
    • Properly account for material transfers job to job and plant to job.

      Payroll
      • Ensuring union payroll timesheets are entered accurately and timely.
      • Manage Payroll Clerk, such that compliance is 100% with all state, federal and local mandates, payments are not withheld due to lapses in compliance and penalties are avoided.

        Accounts Payable and Accruals
        • Prompt and accurate entry of AP invoices;
        • Maintain correct accrual process through matching of receivers against purchase orders and reconciliation of the committed costs.
        • Prompt issue resolution of vendor billing disputes.
        • Management and resolution of AP invoices on hold.
        • Ensure that accruals are entered timely.
        • Ensure prompt pay for critical vendors.

          Collections
          • Responsible for collection efforts to minimize past due AR balances and provide cash forecasts.
          • Oversee establishment of credit for on-account customers of the plants.

            Supervisory
            • Develop and oversee a team to support the accounting functions for the Region.
            • Advise and provide training to support staff, Project Managers, Project Engineers and the Region Manager.
            • Implement and monitor overall regional accounting processes and documentation.
            • Continuously improve efficiency of the department and processes.

              Plant Accounting
              • Oversee inventory reporting and collaborate with Plant Superintendent for accurate monthly inventory reporting.
              • Oversee proper internal transfer rates for materials from Plants to Jobs.
              • Oversee proper billing rates and quantities for external customers.
              • Oversee regulatory compliance reporting for all facilities.

                Facility Management
                • Oversee all Griffith owned / rented facilities.
                • Ensure proper supplies are on hand at all times.
                • Ensure facilities are maintained to the corporate standard.
                • Ensure facilities are properly secured.

                  Knowledge, Skills & Experience

                  The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job.
                  • Minimum of at least 4 years of accounting experience working with an integrated construction accounting and project management software.
                  • Must have considerable knowledge with basic accounting principles (i.e. journal entries, debits, credits, etc.) and accounting functions. Experience with job costing and construction accounting experience.
                  • Ability to work independently and complete duties and projects with little direct supervision.
                  • Ability to accurately work under pressure in meeting deadlines.
                  • Must have excellent organizational skills.
                  • Must be proficient with Excel, Word and Outlook applications.
                  • Prior supervisory experience.

                      EDUCATION

                      Minimum of a bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or related. Experience may be considered as a substitute for this requirement.

                      Physical Requirements
                      • Most time spent in an indoor office environment
                      • Sitting at a desk for prolonged periods of time
                      • Occasional lifting of files and boxes up to 20 lbs
                      • Pushing/pulling of file cabinets
                      • Extended visual use of a computer screen
                      • Frequent typing
                      • Occasional travel
