CSuite Financial Partners has been retained by our client to source an interim Corporate Controller with a CA based national food processing company located in Bakersfield, CA with over $600M in revenue. The company is a vertically integrated farming operation which grows, packs, and markets high quality consumer produce for major shopping markets. This requires some on site work weekly.CPA or CMA Preferred.Job Description:The Corporate Controller will be responsible for managing the overall accounting, budgeting, forecasting, accounts receivable and payables, costing, payroll and inventory activities and personnel for the company. The Controller will ensure accurate, timely and complete financial reporting and analysis in accordance with all regulatory guidelines and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The Controller will develop and maintain strong internal controls, segregation of duties, and standard operating procedures while promoting continuous improvement of financial processes, procedures and systems that will help facilitate transparency and enable real-time decision support to operational partners. Manages a staff of 6.Qualifications - Education/Certification/Experience:A four-year bachelors degree in accounting10+ years of progressively responsible experience, preferably in an agricultural and food processing environment.Preference will be given to candidates with the Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation.Essential Functions of the Position:Develop and prepare annual, quarterly and monthly accounting reports and statements, budgets and forecasts for management and lenders to understand and review performance against goals & objectives.Oversee standard, recurring, and adjustment journal entries as well as all A/R & A/P, inventory, prepaid and accrual expenses, payroll, and other financial transactions. Follow-up with RPE, other customers and vendors as needed.Manage cash and prepare cash flow forecasting. Alert senior management if budgets are exceeded or cash position is compromised. Monitor accounts receivable and accounts payable to ensure balances are within acceptable terms.Review metrics and financial reports for variances, trends & current financial position. Analyze monthly financials and budget variances and prepare monthly variance report, KPIs, tear sheet and dashboards.Oversee monthly reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts.Complete or direct the preparation of all tax filings.Maintain and control the companys chart of accounts and ensure proper transaction coding.Maintain Controllers Handbook. Oversee all new accounting policies and procedures and provide input to continuously improve accounting processes and procedures. Ensure that all accounting systems and processes are GAAP compliance and meet all regulatory, state, federal and other applicable guidelines.Safeguard company assets. Maintain fixed asset system, accounting for acquisitions, transfers, and disposals for the company.Track debt levels and oversee debt and operating lease schedules. Prepare monthly borrowing base report and quarterly bank compliance certificate. Ensure compliancy.Understand and oversee the collection of data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, land allocations, farming, packing operations, inventory, labor and overheads (direct and indirect). Make estimates of new and proposed product costs on a quarterly basis. Prepare regular reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs. Compare factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services and provide management gross margin and customer contribution margin reports and analysis.Project manage year-end financial audit with outside accounting firm. Serve as primary contact for all audits and requests for financial information.Partner with IT department on all regular accounting software updates, subscriptions and enhancement opportunities. Support paperless, audit sound practices.Maintain strong, healthy, working relationships with senior management team, CPAs, legal counsel, banking partners, lenders and insurance agents that provide services to the Company.Lead and manage accounting and payroll staff. Prepare and participate in annual performance evaluations of assigned staff members.Grow professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications and networking.Participate in companys strategic planning and goal setting activities.Embark on personal development, continuous learning, and senior management training.Performs other related duties as required and assigned.Requirements:Bachelors degree in accounting with minimum ten years of experience preferably in agriculture.CPA or CMA designation required4-5 years of experience working as a corporate controller for a manufacturing firm in excess of $100MOutstanding communication, organizational, and leadership skills.Full ERP and enterprise financial systems experience required. Conversation experience a plus.Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and other relevant accounting statements.The ability to work well with all levels of team members on financial issues.Functional expertise to ensure that guidance offered is accurate and consistent for management and support staff.Ability to analyze, investigate and resolve issues while maintaining accuracy, timeliness, and data and work integrity.Ability to establish/maintain productive working relationships with staff, management and other departments to effectively carry out job duties.Ability to evaluate and interpret data and recognize trends.Maintain proper confidentiality for all accounting and company information.Working Conditions:Working primarily in an office environment, with regular engagement on the farm and in food processing centers.
