General Responsibilities:
The Interim Vice President of Instruction shall assist the
Superintendent/President by leading, administering and supervising
a program of lower division college transfer courses, occupational
programs, the Library/Learning Resource Center, developmental
programs and other programs as assigned by the
Superintendent/President.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Interim Vice President of Instruction is responsible for:
Administering a program of recruitment of instructional personnel
for recommendation to the Superintendent/President, including
proper certification of minimum qualifications and recommendation
of salary schedule placement.
Administering and providing leadership for the program of
instructional services, including curriculum revision, improvement
and expansion.
Administering and supervising programs of faculty orientation,
in-service training, evaluation for retention or dismissal and
professional improvement.
Administering the provisions of the certificated and classified
contract as they pertain to the instructional program. Participate
in collective bargaining agreement activities.
Working extensively with the Academic Senate in those areas of
shared governance as defined by statute and implemented by Board of
Trustee policy and agreements.
Developing and supervising Distance Learning, Learning Center,
Library, MESA, dual enrollment, Child Development Center, ,
economic development, transfer, occupational and vocational
programs, and other programs and services within Instruction
Coordinating and supervising the TC Instructional components of the
WESTEC program.
Coordinating and preparation of the master class schedule, college
catalog and the academic calendar in cooperation with the Vice
President of Student Services, Office of Instruction staff, and
Student Services staff.
Finalizing teaching assignments, maintaining control over class
size, and preparing the final examination schedule.
Developing, interpreting, and revising curricula, including course
outlines and textbook approval.
Serving as Co-Chairperson of the Curriculum and General Education,
and the Strategic Enrollment Management Committee. Participate in
Faculty Professional Development Committee and other committees as
needed.
Preparing the Faculty Handbook.
Providing leadership for the development and assessment of the
Student Learning Outcomes for the Instructional Program.
Maintaining a continuing study of the area served by the District
and the adequacy of the services provided by the College for its
community.
Coordinating the work of the Division Chairpersons, Dean of
Instruction, Director of Library/Learning Resources, MESA Director,
Learning Center Director, Child Development Center Director, Dental
Hygiene Program Director, Distance Education Department, Dean
of Career and Technical Education and Workforce Development, and
related management positions within Instruction.
Developing the total instructional budget in cooperation with the
Vice President of Administrative Services, and administering the
instructional budget relative to his/her assigned programs.
Obtaining approval of new courses and programs, following Board of
Trustees approval, through the Chancellor's Office.
Submitting applications for federal and state assistance programs,
which are related to the instructional program and filing reports
and claims which may be required in cooperation with the Vice
President of Administrative Services. Coordinating instructional
grants application and reporting,
Coordinating all his/her areas of responsibility with the
responsibilities of the Vice President of Student Services.
Coordinating with the Accreditation Liaison Officer on
accreditation activities and reports with a focus on continuous
quality improvement and student success.
Completing tasks and reporting in compliance with CCCCO directives
and legislative actions,
Attending Board of Trustee meetings as a member of
Superintendent/President's staff and participating by reporting and
discussing matters pertaining to the academic affairs of the
College and other items when requested by the
Superintendent/President.
Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent/President.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of a Master's degree from an accredited institution,
with an additional three years of formal training, internship, or
leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative
assignment, plus classroom experience. Five years of senior
management experience in higher education, preferably at a
community college. Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of
the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and
ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of California Community College procedures, legislation
and other directives. Advocate for student-centered learning and
faculty development. Motivated, innovated leader experience in all
aspects of teaching and learning, including assessment, use of
technology and development of diverse curricula. A problem solver
able to make and support difficult decisions. Possess a strong
commitment to diversity. Ability to work cooperatively with
students, elected Trustees, faculty, staff and community. Ability
to effectively manage the administrative and budgetary policies of
a college.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time.
2. Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of
various configurations.
3. Ability to see for purposes of reading laws, codes, rules,
policies, other printed
material and observing students.
4. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
5. Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly
understand a normal
conversation.
6. Ability to reach in all directions.
7. Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs.

HOURS AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Assignments are typically 40 hours per week and 12 months per year.
May require overtime, holiday, or weekend work to meet deadlines.
Work is generally performed indoors but may involve traveling to
district or county offices to complete assignments or for research,
workshops, training, or meetings.
PAY RANGE
Administrator Salary Schedule Range 26 - $171,665.00-$204,704.00
annually
This is a full-time position and qualifies for participation in the
District's benefits plan.
