Job Title Field Director of Medical Science Liaisons - Hepatology Requisition JR000009250 Field Director of Medical Science Liaisons - Hepatology (Open) Location Hospital Field Office - USA102 Additional Locations Austin, TX, Bakersfield, CA, Brooklyn, NY, Chicago, IL, Los Angeles, CA, New York, NY, Orlando, FL, Philadelphia, PA, San Francisco, CA, Seattle, WA, Washington, DC Job Description The National Field Director (NFD) of Medical Science Liaisons (MSL) is a leadership role of the field-based Medical Affairs team whose function is an extension of the office-based Global Medical Affairs (GMA) organization. The NFDs participate as part of the MSL Management Team, reporting to the Senior Field Director (SFD) of MSLs for their therapeutic business unit, with responsibility for oversight of a therapeutic area focused MSL team. Each NFD supervises MSLs assigned to a region (including staffing, skills development, and performance management). NFDs are responsible for developing the field strategy/priorities for their therapeutic area in alignment with the GMA strategy/priorities as delineated in the Medical Brand Plan (MBP). The NFD will lead KOL Identification/Profiling and approval of MSL territory plans. The NFD will lead field insights collection, review, analysis, and communication (via Field Insight Review Meetings). The NFD will facilitate feedback from the MSL team, assist with the development of tactics and/or field resources that will aid in achieving the objectives of the field strategic plan, enhance S&T strategic planning, enhance the quality and/or strategy of Clinical Research, and improve the scientific positioning of MNK product(s). NFDs will serves as an internally facing strategic lead for specified therapeutic areas (TA), where they will closely work with that TA's Medical Director on the MBP and/or Launch Readiness Plan. NFDs will ensure compliant practices of MSLs in alignment with SOPs, regulatory requirements, and applicable laws including PhRMA guidelines for field-based personnel. NFDs have no sales objectives or accountability for prescribing or sales of any MNK product(s) and are required to avoid any situations that could create the appearance that they have such responsibilities. Principal Responsibilities* Implement field strategy and priorities for the region in alignment with the GMA strategy and priorities* Accountable to the Senior Field Director for the therapeutic business unit:* Resource management (people and budget)* Ensure compliant practices* Goals/metrics setting and assessment * Supervise MSLs assigned to them* Field observation and coaching* Functional training plans including implementation* Lead KOL identification and profiling* Ensuring implementation of scientific training* Mentoring and development planning (including assignment of projects)* Performance management * Represent the GMA field organization in commercial, development, and GMA forums or initiatives/projects* Represent the GMA field organization with internal and external stakeholders* Support appropriate cross-organizational initiatives as determined by GMA management Department specific/Non-essential responsibilities:* Must be committed to full compliance with all company SOPs, regulatory requirements, and applicable laws including PhRMA guidelines for field-based personnel.* Applicants must possess a valid driver's license Minimum Requirements Experience / Skills:* Advanced scientific degree (MD, OD, PhD, PharmD) or clinical degree (NP, PA) preferred; or equivalent clinical experience (e.g., RN, RT) if appropriate.* A minimum of 5 years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry, other healthcare environment or equivalent experience is preferred.* A minimum of 3 years in an MSL (or equivalent) position required* A minimum of 4 years of leadership (people or project) experience required* Thorough knowledge of medicine, treatment guidelines, clinical research processes, customer strategies, and FDA promotional guidelines, regulations, and ethical guidelines is required.* Solid interpersonal communication and presentation skills.* Must be a strong team player and effectively collaborate across internal departments.* Demonstrated ability to influence organizational processes* Demonstrated ability to translate corporate strategy to medical objectives and field medical tactics* Existing well-developed relationships with KOLs in the therapeutic area preferred.* Experience in a mentoring role is required* Demonstrated ability to build and facilitate effective training programs Competencies:* Work independently* Patient and partner focus* Learning ability* Problem solving* Relationship building* Self-awareness and adaptability* Strategic thinking* Teamwork Organizational Relationship/Scope: This position reports to the Senior Field Director (SFD) of MSLs. The NFD will have contact with internal colleagues in Medical, Medical Affairs, marketing, sales, research and development, strategy/portfolio management, and regulatory. External collaboration includes trade associations, professional societies, payers, clinicians, policy thought leaders, and various government personnel and agencies.
