Job Description:
The mission of the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation

AMERICAN OPPORTUNITY FOUNDATIONHEAD START PROGRAMPOSITION: Licensed
Vocational Nurse (LVN)DEFINITION: Under general supervision, this
will ensure that children are up-to-date on an age appropriate
schedule of well child care and provides expertise and guidance
concerning the health and safety of the Head Start child.REPORTS
TO: Health CoordinatorFLSA STATUS: Non ExemptGENERAL FUNCTIONS AND
SPECIFIC DUTIESResponsibilities Include: Review Health Status and
Follow-up: Review, evaluate, and interpret health records and
maintain a system for determination of health/dental status with
appropriate follow-up for determined needs Ensure that each child
is up-to-date on a schedule of age appropriate preventative and
primary health care Determine the need for medical and or dental
follow-up and assist the program in obtaining further diagnostic
testing, examination and treatment Meet with or conduct a phone
interview with parents regarding health findings, and assist
families in understanding medical information and the need to
complete prescribed treatment plans Assist families in obtaining
needed medical care by making referrals to appropriate community
health care providers Assist in training staff in hearing and
vision screening and tracking the completion and results of
screenings Work with contracted Registered Nurses to develop and
implement individualized health plans (IHPs) Track children with
health care needs and those that require medication administration
at the sites. Provide assistance for Family Advocates so that in
turn the Family Advocate is able to assist parents and enable them
to learn how to obtain any prescribed medications, aids, or
equipment for medical and dental conditions Coordinate needed
training to staff to assist them in including the child and best
serve his/her health needs. Plan and schedule site visits as needed
to observe children who have been referred for health concerns
Collaborate and communicate with each Family Service Advocate to
discuss health requirements based on ChildPlus data reports,
documentation and follow-up Uses ChildPlus to monitor, track and
follow-up on children with health and nutrition needs Assist Health
Coordinator as needed in development of health, and dental policies
and procedures according to the, LACOE GIM's, Performance
Standards, Community Care Licensing and other regulations Provide
health education to parents of children enrolled in the program by
participating in parent meetings, home visits, or other methods
determined effective Plan and prepare health/dental education
trainings on determined or requested topics for parents and staff
Attend staff meetings according to designated schedule Attend
multi-disciplinary team meeting to discuss treatment plans for
children with identifies health plans. Maintain regular
communication with health & nutrition coordinator Provide weekly,
monthly, quarterly and year end health outcomes data report.
Communicate with medical providers as needed for prescription or
other clarifications regarding medical information. Maintain
confidentiality in accordance with agency policy and legal
requirements; respect and maintain rights and privacy of all staff,
parents, children and providers Attend mandated training and
meetings and seek out staff development opportunities. Perform any
other duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREDA.
Education1. Completion of licensed vocational nursing program from
an accredited technical educational institution.B. Experience1. One
year of nursing experience in community health plus nursing
administration and supervision. Pediatric or health education
preferred.C. Skills1. Ability to deal with conceptual matter.2.
Ability to plan, organize, allocate and control substantial
resources.3. Demonstrate knowledge of correct English grammar,
spelling and punctuation, ability to communicate effectively, both
orally and in writing.4. Excellent interpersonal and organizational
skills.5. Proficiency in Microsoft Windows Operating System and
related software programs (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)6.
Spanish/English fluency required.D. License/Credential/Permit:1.
Current and valid CA license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.2. Red
Cross Basic First Aide Certification and CPR Certificate are
preferred.HEALTH REQUIREMENTSMust meet State health requirements:
Must submit a physical examination clearance at the time of
employment. Must also submit verification of T.B. clearance
(PPD/Mantoux) at time of employment (issues within sixty days prior
to employment), to be renewed every four years.Provide proof of the
following immunizations as required: Measles, Pertussis (Whooping
Cough), and Influenza.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSMust possess a valid
California driver's license, have use of a motor vehicle, and
provide evidence of auto liability insurance as required by law.
Good driving record.Must possess fingerprints clearance by the
Department of Justice (DOJ)/Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI),
Live Scan Agency or State Licensing Agency. Fingerprint clearance
must be obtained for continued employment with MAOF. A clearance
number revoked by DOJ/FBI or State Licensing Agency will result in
immediate termination of employment.CHILD ABUSE REPORTMakes reports
of suspected child abuse or neglect, as required by California
law.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are

this job. The Licensed Vocational Nurse is assigned to work at the
MAOF Head Start facility, and is expected to work Monday through
Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Evenings and weekends may be required to
attend community events and fairs to meet the needs of the
