Job Description:
Quality Nurses is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a
travel nursing job in Bakersfield, California.Job Description &
Requirements
- Unit: MedSurg 6E (non-cardiac unit with remote tele)
- Location: (BMH) Hospital
- # beds: 30 Beds
- Ratios: 5:1 Both days/nights
- Certs: BLS Required. ACLS would be a plus.
- EMR System: Cerner experience preferred. Make sure to ask if they
already have Cerner experience & if so, was this recent? They can
comp test out of Cerner training.
- Add'l Equipment: Pagers linked to call light system & internal
spectra link phones
- Unit Orientation: 1 - 2 shifts including the other units they
could be floated to (5W, 4W, 4E, & 5E)
- Nurse Aides: "Yes (can vary depending on census)
Days 2-3; Nights 2 (unless census is low or high RN volume)"
- Charge Nurse: Yes (Charge nurse must have ACLS) they don't take
patients but help staff nurses. IF census is high or there are any
unexpected ill calls the charge nurse would serve as staff
nurse.
- Shifts/Hours: 12's; 7a - 7:30p/7p - 7:30a
- Breaks: 1/2 hour break (clock-out); 3 - 15 min breaks per shift
(CA Law)
- Weekends: "Every other weekend or equivalent of 4 weekend days in
a 4 week schedule (Example: could be 2 in a row, then off 2 in a
row)
Day Shift Weekend is Sat/Sun; Nights is Fri/Sat"
- Scrub Color: Navy blue. If you wear a scrub jacket it also must
be navy. If you wear an undershirt underneath your scrub top it
must be navy, white, or black.
- Tele: Pt's on tele monitored remotely by 5W monitor station/techs
(6E shares tele monitors with 5E. The 2 units combined will have no
more than 14 patients on tele) The charge nurse from the monitored
floor (5W) interprets the rhythms. Then the staff RN puts the strip
in the patient's chart. RNs on this unit are not required to
interpret strips but they expect them to have basic arrhythmia
skills.
No - ICU & ER can assist w/ hard IV sticks No
- IV Team: No - ICU & ER can assist w/ hard IV sticks
- RT 24/7: Yes
- Pharmacy 24/7: Yes & Omnicell
- Types of patients: General Med/Surg patients, pneumonia,
diabetes, COPD, infections, cellulitis, MRSA, isolation, coli,
TURPS, laps, etc...No cardiac drips. Only PO cardiac meds.
Assignments are based on acuity levels. No primary cardiac dx on
this unit
Floating MedSurg nurses only take MedSurg patients. If floated to
MedSurg/Tele they would only be assigned MedSurg patients. They
would verify that they were oriented to a unit before floating to
that unit.Quality Nurses Job ID #d397672. Pay package is based on
12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with
