Minimum Salary BLOGGER/COUNSELOR - starting at $310 per week; MARKETING ASSISTANT/SENIOR COUNSELOR, $355 per week; PARENT LIAISON/SENIOR COUNSELOR - $355 per week. Positions include room and board. Job Summary/Basic Function

BLOGGER:

  • Supervise production of the Village Blog
  • Take photos of villagers and staff in daily life, post daily to Village blog
  • Take video of villagers and staff in daily life, post to village blog regularly
  • Write daily Village blog entry
  • Ensure appropriateness (copyright, Village policies, etc.) of Village webpage
  • Conduct staff training as needed in Village
  • Identify appropriate ways to involve villagers actively in Village webpage and integrate language instruction and use
  • Prepare, as outlined by the Language Community, blog entries to be posted/made live during the academic year
  • Coordinate activities of this position with those of the Village Family Liaison and the Village Marketing Assistant to present mutually aware and integrated messaging and content in communications with villager families, alumni and other stakeholders
  • Be accountable to dean, Marketing Assistant; and technology and communications departments of Concordia Language Villages, as appropriate
  • Strong aptitude for technology and motivation to learn new systems
  • Experience working with online photo and video storage platforms (YouTube, Flickr, etc.)
  • Command of written English and the target language

COUNSELOR (residential program only):

  • Create a physically and psychologically safe environment for villagers and other staff.
  • Participate in all aspects of Village life, including meals, song times, evening programs, cultural presentations and staff meetings. Lead or assist as directed.
  • Teach small language classes and/or activity classes.
  • Live in a cabin with children ("villagers"), as part of a counseling team, to provide supervision. Lead games, Cabin Council and other activities to create a cabin community.
  • Serve as a positive role model for desired behaviors among villagers, including use of Village language.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the dean and leadership staff.

Compensation BLOGGER/COUNSELOR:

starting at $310 per week, plus room and board (residential program only)

MARKETING ASSISTANT:

  • Coordinate with the Village dean and other Language Community members to develop a plan for Language Community marketing efforts for both summer and academic-year calendars
  • Develop mailings, e-communications, special campaigns (birthday greetings, postcards from kids to parents, etc.)
  • Create materials for marketing efforts, including videos, testimonials, and photos of summer villagers, staff and families
  • Establish effective communication tools and structure to actively engage alumni in support of villager enrollment efforts
  • Develop calendar and materials for blogging and other social media communications with other summer Village staff; and determine staging/release throughout the upcoming enrollment season
  • Suggest and process concrete recommendations and requests for Web page enhancements
  • Coordinate activities of this position with those of the Village Blogger and the Family Liaison to present mutually aware and integrated messaging and content for communications with villager families, alumni and other stakeholders

SENIOR COUNSELOR (residential program only):

  • Work under direction of dean and designated leadership staff members as part of counseling team
  • Assume counseling duties for individual house/cabin and other appropriate groups; assume lead counselor duties as appropriate
  • Participate in language instruction in both large-and small-group formats; assume leadership as appropriate
  • Lead and assist with activities as assigned; participate in all Village programs
  • Create a physically and emotionally safe environment in which participants feel accepted by staff and peers
  • Be attentive to supervising villagers at all times; assume leadership as appropriate
  • Motivate villagers to participate actively in the target language and culture (in the community setting)
  • Assist with the development of evening programs and cultural presentations; assume leadership as appropriate
  • Assist with supervising credit villagers during interim weekend as required
  • Complete villager progress reports to be sent to parents
  • Manage villager groups to promote safety, minimize injury/illness and meet developmental needs

Compensation MARKETING ASSISTANT/SENIOR COUNSELOR: starting at $355 per week, plus room and board (residential program only)

FAMILY LIAISON (residential program only):

  • Optimize intentional and proactive interpersonal contact with villager families to effect powerful arrivals and deliberate departures, including but not limited to Opening and Closing Days
  • Prepare villagers and villager families for communicating about the camp experience. Help villagers bring the Village experience to life for their parents
  • Network with staff, villager families and others to expand alumni contact information, including teachers, not only those in attendance this summer, but also those with a history at the Village to help expand the advocacy and support networks for the Language Community
  • Coordinate with dean and all summer staff to expand villager database content for additional data to support more personalized, direct, engaging and proactive retention and recruitment (enrollment management) efforts, also considering how families may be able to support the advancement of the Village beyond their child's attendance
  • Share parent/family feedback with staff frequently throughout the summer, highlighting what parents value by sending their children to the Village
  • Assist dean with parent communications pre-sessions, during, and post-sessions
  • Coordinate activities of this position with those of the Village Blogger and the Village Marketing assistant to present mutually aware and integrated messaging and content in communications with villager families, alumni and other stakeholders

SENIOR COUNSELOR:

  • Work under direction of dean and designated leadership staff members as part of counseling team

Compensation PARENT LIAISON/SENIOR COUNSELOR: starting at $355 per week, plus room and board

General Responsibilities of All Positions:

  • All positions involve teaching language culture, with the exception of summer support positions (e.g., Culinary Arts, health care, transportation).
  • Work outdoors for a significant part of each day.
  • Be familiar with and abide by specific policies set forth in the "Personnel Policies," which are designated by Concordia Language Villages administration and individual Village deans.
  • Read and become familiar with the responsibilities for your specific area of assignment.
  • After receiving your Staff Handbook and other material from the Village dean, read all information carefully and thoroughly before arriving at the Village.
  • Be advised the entire staff of each Village is under the direction of and is responsible to the dean. While some positions are supervised by other staff, the dean retains ultimate authority and responsibility for the Village.
  • Report to orientation prior to your first session as designated by your employment offer.
  • Assist with setting up the Village, preparing for the next session, and maintaining the Village throughout the session.
  • Speak the target language with villagers and staff members as much as possible.
  • Live in community living arrangements, assigned according to gender. Nearly all positions include living, sleeping and sharing communal bathroom facilities in a unit with villagers (participants); positions that do not include living with villagers do include living with other staff members.
  • Model standards for behavior and be sensitive to the health and welfare of the villagers.
  • Remain one day after your final session for cleanup, inventory and evaluation of the program.
  • Be at least 18 years of age

Minimum Qualifications

BLOGGER/COUNSELOR:

  • Completion of at least one year in college/university/post-secondary school, at fully enrolled status.
  • Completion of intermediate level or higher of language study (typically, second or third year coursework at the university level)
  • Experience working with children and adolescents
  • Experience living and working in a rustic, outdoor environment
  • Skills in recreational areas (e.g., swimming, archery, guitar) and/or culture (i.e., music, arts, sports related to the Village culture)
  • Previous Concordia Language Villages or other camp experience (residential or day only), preferred

MARKETING ASSISTANT/SENIOR COUNSELOR:

  • Completion of sophomore year in college (as a fully enrolled student)/post-secondary school or international equivalent or equivalent experience.
  • Considerable proficiency in the target language
  • Experience with young people
  • Enjoyment of living and working in a rustic, outdoor setting
  • Skills in relevant activity and cultural areas with ability to lead

FAMILY LIAISON/SENIOR COUNSELOR:

  • Completion of sophomore year in college (as a fully enrolled student)/post-secondary school or international equivalent or equivalent experience.
  • Considerable proficiency in the target language
  • Experience with young people
  • Enjoyment of living and working in a rustic, outdoor setting
  • Skills in relevant activity and cultural areas with ability to lead

Ability to assist villagers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, injury); possess strength, physical ability, and endurance to maintain constant supervision of villagers; observe villager behavior, assess its appropriateness and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques; possess visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the cabin group.

BLOGGER/COUNSELOR:

  • Experience working with content management systems
