Kern Medical cares for 15,500 inpatients and 125,000 clinic patients a year.Per Diem employees supplement department staffing needs, with no guarantee of minimum hours.Per Diem minimum scheduling expectation is two (2) shift per four week schedule.Position: Per Diem Computed Tomography Technologist - ShiftJob DescriptionUnder direction of the Radiology Manager, to perform a variety of technical procedures in the utilization of computed tomography for the diagnosis and treatment of disease and trauma OR to serve as lead technical person in the Computed Tomography section for an assigned shift; and to do related work as required.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This classification is distinguished from Computed Tomography Technologist I by the assignment of shift coordinator responsibilities OR by the performance of complex computed tomography procedures involving the use of special techniques and/or equipment. The Computed Tomography Technologist II performs routine and complex Computed Tomography procedures. Appointments to Computed Tomography Technologist II will be made, depending on department needs, on the recommendation of the department head with the approval of the Director of Human Resources.Essential Functions:Coordinates schedule with receptionist to complete departmental workload;Maintains a daily log and procedure manual;Maintains monthly count and a chart of all procedures performed;Keeps records on all service calls for equipment, what service was done, what parts were replaced or repaired and other relative information on equipment;Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all inter-relating hospital, referral, or commercial agencies;Mediates problems relative to staffing, scheduling, salary adjustments, discipline, and other actions regarding personnel;Acts as consultant in hiring, promotion or termination of employees;Initiates employee evaluation reports maintains order and cleanliness of equipment and ultrasound area;Maintains adequate supplies;Recommends action necessary for improvement of overall performance quality of department;Performs all preliminary tasks to insure smooth access to the scanner;Explains the procedure and gives directions to the patients before the procedure;Assists the patient onto the examination table and back;Positions patients appropriately for the examination requested;Performs all computer and radiographic functions necessary to insure that the scan is correctly and diagnostically executed in minimal time;Uses the multi-format camera and performssecondary support tasks to insure the patient's comfort and safety during the scan;Assists the radiologist or requesting physician in administering contrast media or other medications as necessary;Assures compliance with all state and federal regulations governing radiation safety and filmed badge programs;Makes the completed scans available to the radiologist for reading;Uses good radiation safety, and maintains safety practices at all times;Logs patients in and is responsible for secondary paper work;Works in the darkroom to process radiographs when required;Reviews films for proper identification and quality checks;Maintains equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition;Provides cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first-aid care to patientswhen required in the department;Inputs charges into the computer billing system;Dependent upon area of practice or department assignments, demonstrates clinical knowledge and skill in the care of the newborn, infant, toddler, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient ranging up to 100+ years of age;Performs other job-related duties as required.Employment Standards:High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent. Graduation from a two-year program in radiologic technology approved by the Council in Medical Education of the American Medical Association; and certification by the State of California, Department of Health Services, as a Radiologic Technologist with a fluoroscopy permit. Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) as a Radiologic Technologist and ARRT Certification as a Computed Tomography technologist-must be obtained within one year of hire.One (1) year of journey-level experience in Computed Tomography preferred. Possession and maintenance of a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card. Appointees not possessing the BLS card must successfully complete appropriate training and qualify for the BLS card within 60 days of employment. Knowledge of: computed tomography techniques, methods, operation and care of equipment; knowledge of structural and organic anatomy; must maintain proficiency in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first-aid; knowledge of acute care hospital procedures; ability to work within guidelines set by section head without supervision; ability to schedule workload, maintain records and files; ability to supervise and instruct employees; ability to deal tactfully with patients, physicians and staff.Employees must maintain all health requirements designated by Kern Medical.A background check will be conducted for this classification.
