San Francisco housing costs 82.4% greater. Los Angeles housing costs 64.8% greater (, 2022) The Opportunity Sunview Vineyards is seeking a Safety professional to join our team. The Safety Specialist is responsible for safety audits, training and incident investigations. This position is responsible for conducting classroom style training and maintaining compliance throughout the Company and all entities and implementing a positive safety culture. This position will report to our main office in McFarland, CA. For the sole purpose of increasing our job advertisement outreach, it has been posted to multiple surrounding cities nearby. Duties and Responsibilities Ensure compliance with all federal and state safety environmental regulations throughout all Company entities and Farm Labor Contractors. Responsible for assisting with Safety curriculum, and the development and implementation of training courses. Conducts required safety training including CPR/First Aid, Forklift, Respirator, Confined Space, Lock-out Tag-out, Hazardous Communication, Chemical/Pesticide Handling, Heat Illness Prevention, Workplace Violence Prevention, Illness and Injury Prevention, Drug and Alcohol Recognition, Defensive Driving, Train the Trainer, New Employee Orientation, etc. Perform routine safety meetings for all entities. Perform safety audits and inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance. Investigate accidents, and injuries to determine causes, install preventive measures, and manage return-to-work activities. Conducts accident investigations, complete reports, forward information to Risk Manager and HR officials, report incidents and assist regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, County Health, Fire Dept., etc.) as required. Recommend safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to work hazards. Direct supervisory over Safety department of 1 to 2 employees; provide guidance and direction to Safety staff. Assist with any HR issues, questions, concerns, Company violation investigations and counseling. Required Skills and Abilities Ability to build trust and influence a positive safety culture with all levels of personnel, including management and front-line employees. Ability to perform ergonomic risk assessments and recommend options for solutions to ergonomic risk. Must be a competent trainer possessing excellent presentation and consultation skills. Possess strong written and verbal communication skills. Self-motivated individual able to work well independently. Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills to work well in a team environment. Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment and effectively prioritize heavy workloads. Ability to be persistent in the face of obstacles, skillfully adapt, and respond effectively and appropriately to challenging circumstances. Competency in developing, implementing, and monitoring accidental prevention programs, policies, and procedures to ensure continuous safe working conditions in accordance with state, federal, and local laws and regulations. Strong managerial, planning, organizational and critical thinking skills. Minimum Qualifications 3 to 5 years professional experience in Safety. Experience in directly leading safety programs and/or personnel. Certification in First Aid, CPR, Forklift, PAC (Pesticide Applicator Certificate), QAL (Qualified Applicator License), Confined Space, ATV, and other safety related certifications. Thorough knowledge of applicable regulations. Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications and strong computer skills. Bilingual in Spanish and English. Able to proficiently translate Company documents and present training courses bilingually. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Able to travel as needed throughout company properties, primarily within central California. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science or related field. Certified Safety Professional (CSP). Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time. Ability to talk, hear, smell, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects. Specific vision abilities required for this position include near and distant, color, peripheral, and depth perception. Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, bend, reach, push, pull, and lift up to 40 lbs. Must be able to follow proper work environment ergonomics. Must have the physical ability to immediately respond to emergency situations. Work Environment Work is generally performed in an office, field, and cold storage exposure. Will frequently be exposed to environmental conditions such as extreme cold or extreme heat. Will frequently be exposed to moving mechanical parts and toxic or caustic chemicals when performing safety inspections. Noise level varies depending on location, but typically is moderate to loud. Travel to all company facilities is required.
