Job SummaryThe R&D Scientist leads developmental projects
that create custom customer-focused silicone-based solutions. The
R&D Scientist leads new product developments; organizing,
prioritizing and delivering on key project milestones. The R&D
Scientist is expected to draw upon a understanding of polymeric
materials chemistry, properties, formulation and molecular
synthesis to provide the team with sound technical guidance.
The R&D Scientist is responsible for leading new silicone-based
chemistry, materials, and technology developments to create new
products for existing and potential new customers. He/she will also
lead and develop new molecules (e.g. Intermediate materials) that
will be used in our Advanced Technology and Biomaterials NDP
groups. He/she will lead the execution of experimental studies to
generate data and drive the development of new products from
concept through commercialization. He/she partners closely with
department peers (e.g., Applications & NPD Scientist) and engages
cross-functionally with Chemist and Technicians to drive projects.*
SUMMARY
Reports to R&D business unit director. Directs the development
of new silicone, silicone copolymers by conducting and supervising
research, analysis, synthesis, and experimentation. Conducts and
oversees long-term research and development projects. Investigates
process and product improvements. Must possess advanced knowledge
and experience in silicone and/or applications technology relevant
for the respective business unit from hands-on industrial
experience including, in part, formulating, process flow and
design, project management and customer interaction.* Job
Description Job DescriptionESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Conducts and
oversees experimental designs, data gathering and data
analysis.Works closely with Process Development, Engineering, and
the Manufacturing groups to review process flow and design and
implement improvements where needed.Provides technical support to
R&D staff, and assists in hands-on training.Write and review
specific technical procedures, customer correspondence, and project
proposals.Follows proper documentation procedures, including
keeping up-to-date and correct records.Directs scale-up of material
from R&D to production.Directs the development of new process
methodology.Brings routine and non-routine problems to attention of
management.Interacts with department personnel in sharing ideas and
results of various projects.Some customer contact required.Must be
regular and punctual in attendanceResponsible for maintaining
quality within the scope of the job description.SUPERVISORY
RESPONSIBILITIESSupports R&D Manager in training, supervising,
and reviewing Technicians and Chemists.QUALIFICATIONS To perform

EXPERIENCE* Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B.S.) in Chemistry or
similar science from four-year college. Advanced degree in
Chemistry or Chemical Engineering preferred.* A minimum of 5 years
experience as a silicone or related position in industry or a
minimum of three years experience as a Senior Chemist at
NuSil.LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read, analyze, and interpret
general business periodicals, professional journals, technical
procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports,
business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to
effectively present information and respond to questions from
groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general
public.MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to work with mathematical
concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and
fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability
to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and
proportions to practical situations.REASONING ABILITYAbility to
define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid
conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical
instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several
