In addition, we have specialty services such as steam trap, heavy civil, and central plant services in locations where it strategically makes sense. We have 4 locations across the Western US: Washington, Central California, Northern California, and Southern California.Visit our website at Total-Western.com for more information about us.Total Western is currently seeking an Estimator to work at our CCR-Bakersfield, CA Region.The required skills & knowledge of this role are:

  • Ability to accurately analyze information
  • Knowledge of construction practices in refineries, power plants, manufacturing, and industrial environments
  • Ability to develop accurate budgets and bids for large scale projects $10MM to $250MM
  • Experience developing conceptual estimates for early vision design/build projects
  • Develop and maintain positive vendor relationships
  • Must be able to provide timely, clear, and complete reports to clients and management
  • Ability to use PC and estimating software or spreadsheet templates
  • Effective written and oral communication skills to clearly outline bid parameters, costs, estimates, and plan
  • Must have valid driver's license and comply with Company driving policyIn this role you will:
    • Understand, communicate, and enforce Company Safety Program (PASS)
    • Gathers, analyzes, and organizes information on projects and work to be performed by reviewing scope of work, manpower needs and costs, equipment and materials costs and sources
    • Participates in job walks to identify scope of work to be performed, change orders, crafts and manpower needs and build schedules
    • Reviews bid packages in detail including bid documents, plans, blueprints, and drawings
    • Obtains bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials; identifying qualified subcontractors; negotiating prices
    • Organize sub-contractor quotations and negotiate to ensure quotes meet contract documents and issue proper documented purchase orders
    • Maintain positive relationships with subcontractors and clients
    • Resolves cost discrepancies by requesting change orders, reviewing data, and discussing productivity and costs with Superintendents/Project Managers
    • Maintains quality of service by following organization standards
    • Using specialized knowledge and experience creates an accurate estimate of the total cost to performing the work
    • Provide clear take offs
    • Participates in team/project/bid review meetings and safety meetings
    • Meet with potential clients to discuss options for proposed services
    • Travel may be required for some projectsEnvironmental Conditions for this role are:
      • Works in a climate-controlled office 85% of the time (work from home is an option)
      • May occasionally work in varying weather: hot, cold, and wet conditions
      • Occasionally works in areas with large industrial equipment subject to high noise levels
      • May occasionally work in areas with hazardous chemicals
      • May occasionally work outdoors on uneven surfaces
      • May be required to sit and stand for long periods of timeEducation and Experience required for this role are:
        • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, economics, operations research, engineering, or construction management, or equivalent experience
        • Proficiency with excel and word, creating documents, worksheets, and data analysis
        • 7 or more years of experience estimating electrical and instrumentation scope for construction projects valued over $10MM
        • 3 or more years of conceptual E&I estimating experienceTotal-Western is a dynamic place to work.
